Latehar: A local court in this district has awarded eight accused involved in a mob lynching incident life imprisonment and has also
imposed a fine of 25,000 on each of them, failing to pay the fine all the guilty will have to go further imprisonment of one more year. The court of Additional district and sessions judge (first) Hrishikesh Kumar awarded the punishment to Pramod Sao, Shahdeo Soni,
Mithlesh Sao, Awadesh Sahu, Manoj Sao, Manoj Kumar Sao, Vidhal Tiwari and Arun Sao.
On March 18, 2016 couple of cattle traders Imityaz Khan and Majroom Ansari were moving with the cattle in Khaprelwar village during which they were cornered by the locals who branded them as cattle smugglers and the duo were beaten to death after which both the bodies were hung from a tree. Police had arrested five of the accused on the same day of the incident while on March 22, 2016 three others surrendered before the court.
Meanwhile, after the court’s verdict the family members of the deceased said that they were not happy with the decision but would approach the higher court as they want death punishment for the killers. They said that despite two years of the incident the families have not got any compensation from the government.
Post the incident the than DC and SP had offered the families a compensation of Rs 1 lakh each which was refused by the people as they had demanded compensation of Rs 5 lakh each.
