Ranchi: The BJP has announced candidates on 10 Lok Sabha seats of Jharkhand with the only big change being former Chief Minister Arjun Munda who has been made party candidate for Khunti Lok Sabha seat replacing eight-time MP and former deputy speaker of Lok Sabha Kariya Munda. On the remaining seats the party had shown its faith on candidates who had contested the polls in 2014.
Among the other key candidates who have been retained from their respective seats included Union Minister of state for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha who would be once again contesting from Hazaribagh seat while his colleague in the Union Cabinet Sudarshan Bhagat would once again be battling out from Lohardaga seat. State BJP president and MP Laxman Giluwa would be contesting from Chaibasa while sitting Jamshedpur MP Vidyut Baran Mahto will once again contest from the prestigious Jamshedpur seat of the state. PN Singh who had won by a record margin from Dhanbad has been yet again fielded from the same seat.
Sitting Godda MP Nishikant Dubey has been given from Godda once again. What has come as a little surprise is the name of Sunil Soren who has been once fielded from Dumka despite losing on previous occasions to JMM supremo Shibu Soren while once again party has given Hemlal Murmu an opportunity to contest from Rajmahal as he too had ended up on the losing side. Despite the Modi wave JMM had managed to keep a hold on its bastion of Santhal Pargana as it won Dumka and Rajmahal seats defeating the BJP comfortably on these two seats. However, the list did not have names of candidates who would be contesting from the prestigious Ranchi Lok Sabha seat and that from Chatra and Koderma.
Currently, Ranchi is represented by Ramtahal Chowdhary, Koderma by Dr Ravindra Kumar Rai and Chatra by Sunil Singh. The delay in announcing the tickets on these seats has fuelled speculations that there might be fresh faces from the BJP to pick up the mantle.
